HANUKAH

Hanukah is a time for us to rededicate ourselves back to Almighty Yahweh. It is a time where we look at ourselves and change, to keep shining the Almighty Light of Yahweh God out to all the world. It is the Festival of Lights, miracles, and Rededication.  It is a time of joy, fun and thanksgiving.

It all began long ago when King Antiochus and his Army took over Israel in 200 BC.  The House of Almighty God was desecrated, and Antiochus decreed that only his gods could be worshipped.  Those who refused to follow him were to be punished.  But a small band of Israelites fought back refusing to bow to idols. In 165 BC, the Maccabees defeated Antiochus and triumphantly reclaimed the Temple.  They then purified the Temple and sought after pure olive oil to light the menorah to rededicate it back to Yahweh God.  They could only find enough to light the menorah for 1 day, but miraculously it burnt for the 8 days required for rededication. 

Hanukah, known also as the “Festival of Lights”, became the annual week of celebration to remember Yahweh’s providing.  Now every year we come together to praise Yahweh for 8 nights and to thank Him for the continual providings that He bestows on all those who are faithful.

When we light a new candle each night, we take the light from the centre candle known as the ‘servant candle’.  This candle represents Christ, i.e., the Light of the World.  Let’s shine bright with thankful hearts to magnify His Light shown in these 8 days as we joyfully await His Return.  For faithful souls as the joyful remnant, we already have the Light of God to IN dwell.

Let’s get underway With prayer and praise, Just like the Scriptures say. Day 2, we know just what to do, Glorify and praise Yahweh. We won’t hold back, We’ll give it all we’ve got, And spread the light in every way. Day 3 is all about peace, Coz we’re the Kingdom heirs. Spread the treasures round As grace abounds, Soak up the blessings in the air!

On day 4 we’ll open up the door And let Heaven’s light come in. And like the lamps we light tonight We won’t let our praise burn dim! Day 5 we’ll come alive With songs that we enjoy Day 6 we’ll shout our praise And move in Yahweh’s joy! Day 7, light it up to Heaven, And let His spirit fly. Ignite the spark of praise in us And keep it burning high. Day 8, now we celebrate So the Hanukah graces flow/ Our thankful hearts, Let the light impart, And off as lights we go!
